TE Connectivity's (TE) business unit, TE Circuit Protection, has been named a winner of EDN China's 2015 Innovation Awards for its PolyZen YC device series. Winning in the "Passive Component" category, TE's hybrid PolyZen YC devices offer a highly integrated approach to helping protect consumer electronics from damage caused by electrostatic discharge and other electrical over-stress events.
The PolyZen ZEN056V230A16YC and ZEN056V260A16YC devices combine a precision Zener diode and a resettable PolySwitch PPTC (polymer positive temperature coefficient) device in a compact (4.0mm x 5.0mm x 1.3mm) package. A PolyZen device's Zener diode is thermally connected to the PPTC device to enable rapid heat transfer, which in turn allows the PPTC device to react faster, thus enhancing protection. A single hybrid PolyZen YC device can help protect products against damage caused by overvoltage, overcurrent, reverse-bias, ESD and overtemperature events more effectively than solutions that use multiple discrete devices. Typical applications include tablets, set-top boxes, hard disk drives and DC power ports.
